PDF Sienna - Musical Monday

The PDFoundation has established an ongoing “Musical Monday” get-togethers in the fairy tale type surroundings of fabulous Tuscan olive groves. The participants are not only residents of Siena but represent the population of the surrounding areas with a diameter of about 50 KM. The new compositions presented provide an uplifting experience that also facilitates a deeper awareness and a stronger link to each individual’s environment. During the latest COSMusic session, the most basic natural elements, water and fire were the main items featured.

The imaginary “Fantastic Voyage” started with Smetana’s Moldau as the mountain streams grew into the rolling river. After a short initial pause, the participants freely shared their fantasies about the visual images that appeared during their individual journeys. Next, the Prometheus overture by Beethoven provided the impetus for progress toward the world of Fire. The best reception was enjoyed by Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite by children and adults alike. The musical entry of Koscsej the magician fascinated everyone prompting the audience to listen to it over and over again.

At the end of the session, the children challenged me to seek out another musical magician for our next meeting so that our next cosmic excursion would be equally exciting and enjoyable.
