Preparations in our Eco-backyard
Eco-gardening is a nature protective way of farming that covers up the perspective of human and wildlife abundance simultaneously. Instead of using artificial materials this method enhances the ecological processes and endeavor to support the sustainable natural cycles. It’s not a huge backyard you need for organic farming, it is a nature protective attitude and eco-friendly extirpators. Thus we can even start our eco-garden on a balcony.
We need some patience, while the change from traditional gardening to eco-gardening has its demands. It might take an adjustment period to call a plantation technically fully eco/bio. Basically the experiment is behind it that during the period the soil and the plants are purifying themselves from the remains of non-organic extirpators and formerly used chemical fertilizers. Generally, after the second or third year of the adjustment our plantation have the top bio qualities.
Follow these principles to enjoy organic crops from our backyard:
- Do not use chemical fertilizers, but use organic materials
- Do not use non-organic extirpators and insecticides, instead let those natural actors (who defeat against pest) find good home in your garden
- Do crop rotation to prevent the proliferation of pathogens
Once we allocate the area of the eco-garden, the soil preparation phase starts. If the organic garden is on our balcony the plantation is time-saving due to the available high quality potting soils. Although if we choose to restart our existing garden or form a new one we have a bit more on our to-do list.
At first hoeing must be the first move to clean out the furrow-weeds. Then cover the cleaned area with organic materials – hummus – and dig it in the soil. The natural actors such as insects, bacteria, fungi or earthworms will do the job of decomposition. Continuous watering and hoeing is also beneficial for the break down process further on.
After these preparations the eco-garden is ready to accommodate seeds, seedlings and new plants. Golden Rule 1 - no same species the same spot within 3 years. Each plant has its own need, own ecosystem and the roots have a special impact to the land. Crop rotation not only helps the plants to retrieve the most of the nutrients from the soil but also prevents the invasion of pest or pathogens. The fact is that most of these enemies lives in the ground so if the host-plant appears in the same area it would suffer aggression. So even if our eco-garden means three different pots on the balcony it is worth to rotate the plants. After the proper plantation we should pay attention on the regular watering so that the seeds can thrive.
Gardening can be physically demanding at the beginning. To enjoy this activity we should wear loose clothes and comfortable footwear. Beyond all while working the first priority goes to your own hydration and sun protection! We want to improve your health not the contrary! When we directly work on the soil it is much better to wear gloves to avoid any damages, and skin blushes.
Surely, you are going to have such a wonderful time in our eco-garden!
There are still a few things to be done until we harvest our bio veggies and fruits, so follow our steps and make yourself filled with joy on your perfectly designed haven.
